Used Containers are as Reliable as One Trips

When something is built well, it’s built to last. Shipping containers are manufactured to protect and securely move items for oceanic transport. They have traveled the world, and as a result, can sometimes look a bit rough with signs of wear and tear. Regardless of their patina, we guarantee that each container is wind & watertight, meeting universal, quality standards for Used Conex containers and is an ideal storage solution for your personal or business items.

The process of repurposing them is as much about innovation as it is about sustainability. Explore some of the most exciting and creative ways to give a used shipping container a new lease on life this year.

Sustainable Business Solutions

  • Used containers offer a more sustainable & cost-effective alternative to new ones.
  • Each year, millions of new containers are manufactured globally, consuming significant energy & adding to environmental waste, especially when used containers are readily available.

What is the History of the Shipping Container

Since its debut in 1958, the shipping container has revolutionized the way goods are transported around the world. Invented by Malcolm McLean, a trucking entrepreneur who reimagined freight transport. His vision was to standardize steel boxes that could move effortlessly between ships, trucks, and trains, cutting costs, saving time, and streamlining global trade.

Today, the container remains a cornerstone of efficient logistics and versatile storage and is used by businesses, builders, and farmers to move, shelter and protect. With modern day unique applications and use cases we all can benefit from a design that's stood the test of time.

Let’s Explore How the Shipping Container is Made

The manufacturing process of shipping containers begins with a sizable sheet of steel, serving as the foundation for each container. This sheet is carefully cut into multiple pieces. To ensure cleanliness and eliminate any impurities, the sheets undergo sand-blasting and priming.

During the following stages, the sheets are corrugated to enhance their strength, and the wall panels are expertly welded together. Square tubing is welded to the top of the walls for added reinforcement. The floors of the containers are crafted using sturdy and resilient wood that has been treated with a protective spray to prevent insect infestations. The floor panels and frame are produced separately. The door and corner post assembly follows suit. The shipping container steel doors are installed on the floor frame, followed by the attachment of the wall panels. Next, the corner posts, walls, and doors are skillfully welded in place. Finally, the roof panel is assembled and securely attached.

The final stages of the manufacturing process involve priming and painting the container to safeguard it against weather-related damage.

The flooring panels are carefully varnished to shield the wood from potential water damage, and the floor is then installed within the frame. Rubber seals are fitted onto the doors to ensure a watertight seal, and the bottom of the container is made water-resistant.

Modern Impact

Today, the shipping container is still widely used around the world, especially for dense or weight-limited loads. Approximately 25 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) are active in circulation globally, facilitating international trade by transporting a wide array of goods ranging from electronics to raw materials. It’s become a backbone of global logistics while historically regarded as a sea faring solution is now proving itself as an affordable land-based storage solution as well.

Explore all the unique modern ways used containers from Eveon have been repurposed for various industries. Along with the business implications of the invention of the shipping container, repurposing the Corten steel box, it’s vital to a circular economy. Reusing and repurposing the box engineered to last for decades is smart for business, the wallet and the environment.
